The Alexia Foundation has given significant production grants to visual storytellers
to foster understanding and expose social injustice for over 25 years.
News about the Alexia Grant Competition
The recipient of The Alexia 2018 Professional Grant is Rena Effendi for Spirit Lake. The project examines the effects of trauma perpetuated by the recurrent sexual abuse on Spirit Lake reservation in North Dakota and the role of traditional healing in overcoming pain.
Monica Jorge of the International Center of Photography is The Alexia 2017 Student Winner for My Grandfather’s Keeper, which documents the sacrifices of senior spouses unprepared for care taking. It shows the experience of her own grandmother in her transitioning from being a wife to being a nurse.
The Alexia Foundation offers grants to student and professional photographers to give them the financial ability to produce substantial stories that drive change in the effort to make the world a better place. Students also get scholarship opportunities.
Applications for The Alexia 2018 Grants are currently closed. We will begin accepting applications again for our 2019 grant cycle in the Fall of 2019.
